Once you leave formula student you will find yoursel with an impressive amount of time on your hands, that will lead you to choose some kind of very specific and strange hobby. So here is how I went from having a generic smart bulb to more than 500 entities populating my own server.

I host my home assistant server on an N100 minipc that is mounted inside one of my desk drawer with a 3D printed bracket. This hosts Home Assistant OS and a few docker containers. This allows me not only to have an smart bedroom but also to have Cloud Storage (via an SMB server) and a Google Photo like experience on Immich. This is all accessible from the outside on a military level encripted connection provided by Tailscale.

I have an extensive Zigbee network, using a ZBT-2 antenna and a CCTV fully local system with AI Face Recognition (Frigate + Google Coral TPU) manged via RSTP conenctivity.

I am in the process of building an access kiosk usign an RPI 4B with a DSI display using a custom debian distro and some creative 3D printing. Future plans also include connecting it to the Gemini API to have outstanding voice command capabilities.
